About

Hello, I’m fLorence (sic), a neuroscientist with a mission to stop burnout and help you thrive in today’s fast-paced world.

We need to re-think strategies to prevent burnout.

I’m deeply passionate about this mission because, like many, I once found myself on the dark path of burnout. This experience taught me vital lessons, notably that burnout can affect anyone, and we need to debunk the myths surrounding it to re-think our strategies for prevention.

Portrait of Dr fLorence Cotel

I thought I was too strong and resilient to ever burn out.

You see, I’m a relentless seeker of challenges. I thrive on hard work. Within the first decade of my career, I published research featured in the news worldwide, founded an organisation, and cycled across a continent. I believed I was too strong and resilient to ever experience burnout. So, it came as a shock when I was advised to rest instead of pushing even harder, as I typically would. The truth was, I couldn’t push anymore. Even answering simple emails became overwhelming. The exhaustion was not only emotional but had also taken a physical toll, to the extent that sometimes it was a struggle just to stand up.

I harnessed my strength in neuroscience and endurance training to discover new strategies for recovery.

Burnout had hijacked my life, obstructing the path to my personal and professional goals. Therefore, my priority became learning how to manage it in order to continue my journey. Resting provided only temporary relief, so I harnessed my strengths in neuroscience and endurance training to discover new strategies for a full recovery.

People I helped transitioned from taking prolonged leaves to working full time and loving it.

After I got back on my feet and started thriving again, I helped several individuals who were grappling with burnout. They transitioned from taking prolonged leaves to working full time and loving it. Later, volunteers I led reported their own recovery from burnout, thanks to the work they did with my organization. All of this inspired me to share my method with a broader audience and delve into further research on burnout in the brain.

The Cotel Method involves establishing pillars of performance, which include well-being and engagement.

I firmly believe that achieving goals close to your heart is essential for thriving. This is why I assist individuals and organisations in equipping themselves against burnout, unlocking their performance potential, and reaching their objectives. The Cotel Method for burnout prevention involves establishing pillars of performance, which include well-being and engagement. It is informed by cutting-edge research and designed for easy implementation in daily life.
